host a fridge

We’re in this for the long haul

We want to make sure our hosts and community feel solid, supported and sustainable before installing a fridge. Here are some questions for potential hosts to consider when thinking about starting a fridge.

Is the HOST a community hub, with positive connections to the neighborhood and viable foot traffic?

We want to make sure food is accessible to neighbors, and that each location is a safe and positive space to give + receive food. It is important that the host location encourages the community to self-sustain the fridge.

Will the HOST be helping to fill the fridge for the community as much as possible?

Although the community as well as The Love Fridge team will provide food when possible, we encourage fridge hosts to also participate as much as they are able to.

Will the HOST need a shelter build or are you able to build yourself?

While we have volunteers who can occasionally help with labor and building supplies; we are currently prioritizing locations that can self-sustain in this way.

Does the HOST have access to a power supply, and will the HOST require financial assistance for covering electricity for the fridge (approximately ~$150/year)?

We are happy to help cover electricity costs, if needed.

Would the fridge be accessible 24/7?

We are prioritizing locations that do not have a need to lock the fridge or revoke access to the fridge for certain hours.
